On a sad note we are currently mourning the recent death of Centre West trustee Sandra McNeill.  Being a resident herself she was an active advocate and campaigner on behalf of the concerns of local people.  Sandra had a strong interest in the well-being of her own neighbourhood of Rye Hill, but also had a passion and strategic eye for improvements that would benefit the wider communities of this area.

Through her voluntary work as a community representative with the Newcastle New Deal for Communities programme she helped to shape the projects that made such a difference to the lives of so many people across the Inner West of Newcastle.  Working with other local residents she tried hard to persuade the City that it was a mistake to build its new homelessness accommodation at Wentworth Court in the heart of the residential family estates of Rye Hill.  Although both frustrated and disappointed to see the development get the go-ahead she remained positive, still believing that these neighbourhoods would continue to change for the better.

As a colleague, as a friend, and as someone who truly cared about local people, Sandra is dearly missed.
