Visit from our local MP Chi Onwurah

Hat-Trick recently had a visit to our all girls football session ‘Girls and Goals’ from our local Labour MP Chi Onwurah. The girls were really excited about meeting her after only hearing about her through school lessons.

We have a strong all girls provision running weekly at our local football venue Soccer World where the girls come to engage in some football, learn new skills and playing matches at the end of every session. Not only do the girls play football, but they have also built solid friendships with other girls from all the local schools around Newcastle which they may not have met if not through our session.

Chi was very interactive with our girls and told them “It’s great to see girls involved in football and to keep the good work up”.

The girls jumped at the chance to get some pictures taking with Chi, which were instantly put on their social media and couldn’t wait to show their teachers once back at school.

Speaking with Chi, she asked me how I got the session running, which I told her we work in various schools around Newcastle, with lots of different sessions running, we see target groups that need the support from our organisation, and with various funding available such as Wild Cats from Northumberland FA who currently fund this session, we can benefit the young girls and give them the opportunity to attend such sessions.
